Please note that NO words/spelling/grammar have
been altered, this is exactly what went on the old Thrice website. However,
I've made it easier to read by formatting it. Also note that this is 2000...
a great deal of time has past, and this was them at time of it's original
writing. Thanks to the wonders of the internet here, we found the old thrice
profiles and biography from 2000. Enjoy.
Biography
Dustin and Teppei went to high school together, and had played in a band
together before. It didn't last very long but the two of them still had
a vision for a band. Eddie, whom Teppei knew from skating, said he wanted
to play bass and signed on as the bassist (though he had never played
bass and had only minimally played guitar.) The search for a drummer led
them to recruit Eddie's older brother Riley, who had played drums in Madrise
and sung in a band called Hindsight. After a few practices together, we
knew that we had the right people in place, and in August of '98, Thrice
was born. The name was something of an inside joke with everyone and become
the band name by default.
Three months after our birth as a band, we recorded our first EP, First
Impressions, in November of 1998. We pressed 1000 copies D.I.Y., and sold
out of them at shows and local record stores. In the beginning of 1999,
we played locally in support of the EP and starting looking for someone
to help us put out another release. During 1999, we continued writing,
and developing our own sound, and soon realized that it was time to get
back in the studio. During two sessions, in late '99 and early 2000, we
recorded a twelve song full length called "Identity Crisis". Engineered
and Produced by Paul Miner (Death By Stereo, Epitaph Records), Identity
Crisis better defines the sound THRICE is striving for: the dynamics and
emotion of hardcore with the melody of pop-punk. The album was picked
up by our good friends Ron and Andy at Crawlspace Records, who started
a new label called Greenflag Records, to release the CD on. Identity Crisis
was released in early June 2000 and is being distributed by Revelation,
No Idea, and Sound of California.
We are excited about the future of this band, and are 100% dedicated
to the music, the people who listen to it, and each other. Our sound is
progressively getting heavier and more technical but still holding strong
to our melodic roots. Thanks for checking out the site. Spread the music,
and we'll see you at a show!

“Such grace is costly because it calls us to follow, and it is grace because
it calls us to follow Jesus Christ. It is costly because it cost a man
his life, and it is grace because it gives a man the only true life. It
is costly because it condemns sin, and grace because it justifies the
sinner. Above all, in is costly because it cost God the life of his Son:
and what has cost God much cannot be cheap for us. Above all, it is grace
because God did not reckon his Son too dear a price to pay for our life,
but delivered him up for us. Costly grace is the Incarnation of God.”
